University of Richmond

Personal File Storage

The University of Richmond provides personal computer file storage called "NetFiles" for all active faculty, staff, and students. This storage is backed up in our Data Center and can be accessed both on campus as well as off-campus (see below). This storage is automatically mapped to your "U:\" drive if using a Windows desktop and it is provided for use in accordance with the Policies Regarding the Use of Technology and Information Resources.

Personal computer file storage is provided based on your role at the University:

Role      Storage Quota
Faculty 2 gigabytes
Staff 1 gigabyte
Student 200 megabytes

Additional storage may be requested by filling out and submitting the
Request Additional Storage form and is granted in blocks of 100 megabytes.

Students have access to their online storage until approximately 10 weeks after graduation or upon termination of matriculation at the University.

Information Services recommends that NetFiles be used as security measure to backup important files on your computer. Details, instructions, and information on how to fully utilize NetFiles can be found at the storage FAQs.

NetFiles online storage is accessible from any computer on campus, or remotely via the Campus Modem Pool for dial-in users or the Virtual Private Network (VPN) for users with broadband access.
