Creating a Spam Filter in SpiderMail
The following steps describe how to set up a SpiderMail rule to filter spam e-mail.
- First, open SpiderMail in your Web browser.
- Next, create a folder to hold your spam messages. You will need to check this folder periodically to make sure that you are catching actual spam and not legitimate e-mail that you want to receive. Create the folder by clicking on the "Folders" link at the top of the interface.
- In the Create Folder form, type a name for your folder, "SPAM" for example, and click on the "Create" button.
- You can click on the "Refresh Folder List" in the left bar to make sure the folder has been created.
- Next, configure our filter by clicking on the "Options" link at the top of the interface. Then select "Message Filters."
- Click "Add New Rule."
- Select "Header" radio button. Click the "Move on to step 2" button.
- In the header drop down box, choose the "X-Spam Level," leave contents in the next box, and enter five "s" characters into the third box. You can fine-tune the filter by adding 's' characters to be more lenient and catch fewer messages, or by deleting 's' characters to be less lenient and catch more messages.
- Click the "Move on to step 3" button.
- Choose the "Move message into" radio button and pick the "SPAM" box in the existing folder drop down box.
- Click the "Move on to step 4" button.
- Click the "Finished" button.
- Click the "Save Changes" button.
- Please contact the Help Desk if you need further assistance.
