Set Up Wireless for Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard"

  1. Open System Preferences.
    Apple Menu
  2. Select "Network."
    Select
  3. Click the lock at the bottom left portion of the window.
  4. Authenticate with an Admin user ID (may be your user name if you have administrative privileges).
    Click to unlock
  5. Click on the Airport configuration in the upper-left column
  6. Click the "Advanced" button at the bottom-right portion of the window.

  7. From the advanced settings, click the "802.1x" tab.
    Choose 802.1x
  8. Click the "+" button in the lower left-hand corner and select "Add User Profile".

  9. Type in "urwin" into the upper field.
  10. Enter your NetID and password, and and select urwin in Wireless Network.
  11. Uncheck TTLS from the authentication list and drag PEAP to the top of the list.

  12. Click "OK" and then click "Apply".

  13. Click Advanced again.
  14. If Richmond is in the preferred networks list, select it and click the "-" button. If not, go to step 15.

  15. Click the "+" button under Preferred Networks.
    Click the
  16. Click "Show Networks".

  17. Select "urwin". Verify that the information in the User Name and Password field is correct and click "Add".

  18. Click "OK" then click "Apply".
  19. Click "Turn Airport Off".
  20. Once Airport is off click "Turn Airport On".
  21. An 802.1x authentication message will pop up asking you to verify certificate. Click "Show Certificate".

  22. Check the box beside "Always trust "ldap.richmond.edu".

  23. Authenticate with an Admin user ID (may be your user name if you have administrative privileges).
    Enter Password
  24. Click "OK".
  25. If you notice the certificate message isn't going away and you are getting the "spinning beachball" you may need to authenticate again using an Admin ID and password (may be your user name if you have administrative privileges). The authenication window will be behind the certificate window. 
  26. Check System Preferences again. Once it says "Authenticated via PEAP..." you should be able to connect to the internet. You may have to turn the Airport off and on again before this message appears.
