Setup Mac OS X Wireless Printing to Library Printers

Follow the instructions below to set your Mac OS X to print to the wireless printers in Boatwright Memorial Library. If you wish to print to any of the wireless network printers in the Law School or Jepson Hall, please stop by the Help Desk with your computer. 

Installing the Library Printers
  1. Download the printer installer. - Download
  2. Double click on the UR Library Printer Installer.zip from your downloads.
  3. Right click on the UR Library Printer Installer.app and choose "Open"
  4. You may be prompted that "UR Library Printer Installer" is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it? If you receive this message, click Open.

  5. You will then be prompted to enter your computer password.

  6. Click the dropdown beside details.

  7. The installer will add and configure the library printers.

  8. Once the installer window goes away, you will want to verify that the printers were installed. Click on the Apple menu and select System Preferences.

  9. Click Print & Scan (other versions of Mac OS X will have it listed as Print & Fax or Printers & Scanners) on the second row.

  10. The three Library printers (bml1stflprt, bml2ndflprt, bmlcolor1flprt) will be listed on the left along with any other printers you have installed.

Print to the Library Printers
  1. Open the document or webpage you wish to print and click print. 
  2. Select the Library printer you would like to print to and click print. 
  3. Click on the printer icon that appears in the dock.

  4. Click on the refresh icon next to the print job.

  5. You may be automatically prompted to enter your username and password. 
    • For Mac OS X 10.7 and above, in the "Name:" field, enter your NetID as either netid@richmond.edu or just netid (ex. ab1cd or ab1cd@richmond.edu). In the password field, enter your network password. Check the box beside Remember this password in my keychain.

    • For Mac OS X 10.6.8, in the "Name:" field, enter your NetID as RICHMOND\NetID (ex. RICHMOND\ab1cd). In the password field, enter your network password. Check the box beside Remember this password in my keychain.

You will need to repeat this process of entering your credentials the first time you print to any of the Library printers or after you change your network passphrase. If you have any problems, please contact the HelpDesk. 

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to print to the library printers after installing them, please follow the instructions below to connect to pluto (our print server).

  1. Open Finder.

  2. In the Menu Bar, choose Go and then select Connect to Server.

  3. Type in smb://pluto and press Connect

  4. When you reach the login window for pluto, press Cancel.

  5. Try to resume printing. If you are still unable to print, please contact the Helpdesk.
