Purchasing
Personal Computer Systems
Students planning to bring a computer to campus should be familiar with the University's minimum standards for support. Information Services also offers advice and recommendations to students and parents during the purchasing process.
Faculty and staff interested in purchasing a home computer system can take advantage of advice, educational discounts, and certain license agreements.
University-Owned Equipment
The purchase of all desktop computer hardware, software, peripherals, and printers is centralized through the procurement department. This process better facilitates the management of the equipment as university-owned assets and provides the user community with a comprehensively managed life cycle program.
Wendy Burchard is procurement coordinator for Information Services. She can provide education pricing, advise you with the hardware selection process, and place the order for you. Wendy can be reached at x8785 or wburchar@richmond.edu.
All equipment and software ordered through the procurement office is delivered to Information Services in Jepson Hall. Once received, the equipment is provided with a university asset tag, and pertinent information such as the make, model number, and serial number, is entered into our asset database.
Once the equipment is tagged, the Help Desk is assigned the responsibility of configuring, delivering, and installing the equipment in your office. A help desk technician will contact you to discuss your configuration needs and to schedule the delivery and installation of the equipment.
What We Buy
At this time the university standard hardware manufacturers are IBM and Apple Computer.
The University purchases hardware that is made for the commercial environment and that is intended to work on a network and last for at least three years. Commercial equipment goes through a more rigorous manufacturer quality assessment process than equipment found in the consumer environment or at a retail store. All computers that the University purchases have a three year on-site warranty.
