Off-Campus Access
The University of Richmond's network can be accessed by authenticated students, faculty, and staff using the University's modem pool or its Virtual Private Network (VPN) via the Internet. Students who live in the residence halls should be connected to the campus network via the connections in their rooms or public labs, or via the wireless network.
Modem Pool
The University of Richmond provides modem pool (dial-in) access to the campus network for faculty, staff, and students when they are not on the campus.
The modem pool phone number is 282-2077.
Faculty and staff who travel for business may contact Telecom to request toll-free access to the modem pool.
To dial in to the network, you will first need to configure your computer:
| Windows | Macintosh |
| Windows XP Home | Mac OS X |
| Windows XP Pro | |
| Windows Vista |
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Faculty, staff, and students who have DSL or cable modem access from their homes or Internet access while traveling may access resources on the University of Richmond network via the virtual private network (VPN). The VPN allows secure access to networked resources from a remote (off-campus) location. Security is provided by enhanced authentication and encryption technology.
