On-Campus Access
While on campus, students, staff, and faculty can access the University network through the campus-wide wireless network (urwin), or via one of the more than 11,000 live data jacks across campus. You will need an ethernet card to access the network.
Configure Your Computer to Access the Network

| Windows Vista | Mac OS X–10.5 |
Network Requirements
All computers must be registered in order to access the campus network. If you have a laptop with a wireless adapter you must register your computer twice, once on the wired network and again when connected to the wireless network. Unregistered computers will only be able to access the following services:
- Account activation
- Registration pages
- Anti-virus scanning
- Windows Update Web site
Computers must be connected directly to the campus network for registration to occur. Instructions for registration were attached to each student's residence hall key. If an unregistered user attempts to access the Internet, they will be redirected to the University registration page. If for some reason you are not redirected and wish to register your computer, you may do so at https://wwws.richmond.edu/compreg.
During the registration process each computer will be scanned to determine if the appropriate operating system patches have been installed and to verify that the University-supplied anti-virus software has been installed. The registration process does not complete until all scans have been completed and passed.
If there is another version of anti-virus software on the computer, it must be removed and the supplied version installed.
University-owned computers:
- University-owned computers supplied by User Services are pre-loaded with the appropriate software and should pass the registration process quickly.
- General use computers are registered by User Services and cannot be re-registered by another user.
- If an office has a secondary computer it must be registered by someone in the office where it will reside.
