Smartphone Synchronization

Using a cellular connection or a computer, you can set your Windows© Smartphone to synchronize with an Exchange server.

Method one: Wireless synchronization using cellular connection

Make sure you have a direct Internet connection by setting up a Wi-Fi connection or by using your phone's cellular connection.

On your phone, on the home screen, click "Start > Programs > ActiveSync > Menu > Add Server Source."

If you've already set up a sync partnership with an Exchange server, the option appears as "Configure Server" instead of "Add Server Source."

ActiveSync

  1. Enter your e-mail address
  2. Select "Attempt to detect Exchange Server Settings automatically," and click "Next."
  3. In the Server Address field, enter the name of the Exchange server.
  4. If encrypted connections are supported by your Exchange server, select the "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection" check box, and click "Next."
  5. Enter your user name, password, and domain name.
  6. If you want the phone to save your password so that you won't have to enter it again when synchronizing, select the "Save password" check box, and click "Next."
  7. Select the check boxes for the information that you want to sync with the Exchange server.

Options

  1. To change available synchronization settings, select the type of information, and click "Menu > Settings."
  2. If you want to change the rules for resolving synchronization conflicts, click "Menu > Advanced."
  3. Click "Finish."

Method two: Wireless synchronization using computer (Windows© Mobile Device Center)

Set up a sync partnership with Windows Mobile Device Center

If you haven't already installed Windows Mobile Device Center, download Windows Mobile Device Center.

To set up Windows Mobile Device Center to sync content to your phone, you need to install Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2003, or Office Outlook 2007 on your computer if you haven't already. The first time you use Windows Mobile Device Center to sync content, you must use either a USB cable or a cradle to connect your phone to your computer. You can't sync for the first time by using Bluetooth or infrared.

Windows Mobile Device Center opens automatically every time you connect your phone to sync, as soon as your computer detects it. If it doesn't open, go to the Microsoft Forum: ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center for possible solutions.

  1. On your computer, click "Set up your device."
  2. Select the check boxes next to the information that you want to sync, and then click "Next."
  3. Enter a name for your phone, and clear the check box if you don't want a shortcut for Windows Mobile Device Center on your desktop.
  4. Click "Set Up." Windows Mobile Device Center synchronizes the selected information.
  5. To sync again, connect your phone to your computer, and then do one of the following:
    1. On your phone, click "Start > ActiveSync > Sync."
    2. On your computer, in Windows Mobile Device Center, click "Sync."
