Alert: Spear Phishing Email

There have been a large number of reports of individuals receiving spear phishing emails that appear to be from someone in their department or their supervisor.  The first email may start off with an innocent request asking "Hey are you available". Once responded to, the sender will then ask the individual to purchase gift cards and send the card codes back to them. If you have replied to one of these emails and provided the information that was requested, you should immediately contact your financial institution to put a hold on that card.

If you receive an email that seems to be from your supervisor, instructing you to purchase gift cards, do not purchase the gift cards. If in doubt, do not reply to the email, but contact the individual/supervisor directly to verify if the request was legitimate.

Please contact the Help Desk if you have any questions about suspicious emails.
