Alert: Gift Card Scam

Update: 02/06/2019

There continues to be a large influx of targeted phishing emails from individuals seeking gift cards.  The email message typically appears to be sent by a supervisor or someone in their department using a fake address.  The initial email may start off with an innocent question asking, "Hey are you available?" Once a response is received, the sender will then ask the individual to purchase gift cards and send the card codes back to them. If you have replied to one of these emails and provided the information that was requested, you should immediately contact your financial institution to put a hold on that card.

If you receive an email that seems to be from your supervisor instructing you to purchase gift cards, do not purchase the gift cards. If in doubt, contact the individual or supervisor directly to verify if the request was legitimate.

Please contact the Help Desk if you have any questions about suspicious emails.
