Exchange Online Upgrade 2018

Information Services will be performing a significant upgrade to faculty and staff email accounts this semester. Beginning on March 12, we will be migrating our on premise Exchange environment to Exchange Online. Small groups of faculty and staff email accounts will be migrated to the cloud each weekday, with the entire migration lasting 5-7 weeks.  You will be notified via email several days before your scheduled migration date.

Benefits of Exchange Online

  • Enhanced redundancy and disaster recovery with fewer servers hosted on campus
  • Free downloads of Office ProPlus (up to 5 computers per user) 
  • Email addresses will not change
  • No change in what client you use to access email
  • Increased mailbox capacity of  50 GB (3 GB is the current default storage)
  • Increased stability and reliability of service
  • Better spam identification and mitigation

Please be aware of known issues that may occur with the migration process. 

What accounts are being migrated?

All active faculty and staff accounts are being migrated. Students assistants that have an Exchange mailbox will also be migrated (this will not affect their Gmail accounts)

Retiree mailboxes will not be migrated to Exchange Online at this time. 

Will everyone be migrated at once?

No, due to the time required to migrate each mailbox, the migration will occur in phases. You will be emailed a notification 48 hours prior to your scheduled date. 

How will I access my email after it's migrated?

You will be able to continue to use your mail client on your mobile devices and computer after your mailbox is migrated.

What happens on the day(s) my email is migrated?

Your email will be migrated between 11pm and 7am. 

We recommend closing out of your email on your devices while the upgrade is taking place. 

When you launch your email, you may be prompted for username, which is now your email address, and password. More information on troubleshooting and reconnecting your device can be found on our Troubleshooting page
