Updating Identity & Access Management

October 1, 2025

Information Services is working to update the processes that ensure the right individuals have appropriate access to technology resources. Identity & Access Management (IAM) is a framework of policies and technologies used to do this. With the implementation of Workday, it is necessary for the University to move to a platform that will replace the University’s custom-developed software solution on which we have relied for over 20 years.

On April 1st, Information Services released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to purchase a new IAM platform. IS sent the RFP to six vendors and the team selected SailPoint’s Identity Security Cloud platform. IS then released a second RFP to seek SailPoint implementation services, which IS hopes to wrap up by October so implementation can begin in November. While planning won’t be complete until November, the target date for the new system is January 2027.

When SailPoint has been implemented, it will manage user accounts and entitlements using information provided by the University’s enterprise systems, including Workday, Banner, and OneCard. Students, staff, and faculty will automatically be provisioned centralized accounts in systems such as email, Box, Zoom, Blackboard, and more. The changes may be invisible to most, as everyone will go on using systems as they have in the past. But by centralizing management of system accounts, the security of University systems will be significantly improved.
