IS Projects: February 2026 Overview
In addition to providing technology support to all students and employees, and maintaining a robust and secure infrastructure, Information Services collaborates with individuals and departments across campus with projects that continually transform how work is done. The IS Project Management Office (PMO), staffed by Susan Galvin and Beth Simms, coordinates many of the dozens of projects going on at any time.
Some of the projects-in-progress are:
Academic
- Computer Science - Virtual Machine Server for Department Research: IS is working with the Computer Science department to set up a new research server that will be used in conjunction with classroom teaching and research.
- Registrar - AppointLink Implementation: IS is working with the Registrar’s Office to set up an anonymous grading application for the Law School. This will replace a custom process that is no longer supported within Bannerweb.
- Weinstein Learning Center Construction - As part of the Boatwright Library renovation, the Weinstein Learning Center is being updated. Currently IS is working through the room-by-room audio-video narrative to inform the specifications for the components to be installed.
Operations
- Dining Services - Menu Management Software: Dining Services is replacing an existing application that is used to manage menus at the Dining Hall and other locations on campus. Partnering with IS, they seek more current, robust software that will provide better data, support our current software integrations, and allow for further integrations.
- Institutional Effectiveness (IFX) - Data Visualization Tool: The vendor for the current IFX data visualization tool now requires customers to move to their cloud solution, greatly increasing the cost. IFX is taking this opportunity to review the products that are currently on the market in order to decide whether to move to the cloud environment of their current tool or move to a different tool that may offer a more intuitive experience for users and developers.
- Modlin Center and other departments - Spectrix Ticketing System Implementation: The Modlin Center is replacing their existing ticketing system with a solution that other departments on campus will be able to use for their events. See the October 2025 IS Newsletter article to learn more.
- Student Health Center - MD-Scripts Prescription Dispensing: The Student Health Center has selected a solution that will allow them to dispense prescription medications to students. They are currently in the contract review process and anticipate selecting a go-live date once the new medical director arrives in March 2026.
- Workday - Advanced Compensation: The University has licensed an additional module for Workday that enhances the standard Compensation system. This will allow the University to better manage various aspects of the merit cycle and employee compensation.
Infrastructure
- Sailpoint Identity & Access Management Implementation: As described in an October 2025 article, Information Services is replacing its custom-developed software solution for identify and access management with a commercially purchased solution to sustainably manage core identity information for all University community members, and to manage access and permissions for in dozens of applications and services.
- Campus Card & Access Control System: The University will be moving to a new campus card, and with it, a new system for controlling card access to buildings across campus. This project is currently under review, with its possible implementation planned for later this year.
Information Services shares a list of current projects, updated weekly, on the homepage of the IT Governance website. You will need your network ID and password to access the list.
If you are interested in Information Services support for a technology-related project, you can get started by completing the IS Project Request Form. The Project Management Office recommends submitting your request as soon as you are aware of your need for support. Depending on your availability, as well as that of Information Services and any possible vendor, the startup process for a project can take weeks to accomplish. Support articles providing an overview of the Project Intake Process and information on How to Submit an IS Project request are available.
