ChatGPT 5.4, Claude, Gemini and Copilot Available Free in SpiderAI

April 20, 2026

SpiderAI now includes access to ChatGPT 5.4, Claude 4.6, Google’s Gemini models, and Microsoft Copilot—free, private, and available right now. Log in, select which App you want to work with, and enter your prompts. With SpiderAI you don’t hit typical usage limits while you are working. Use the AI models and features you need.

SpiderAI is an AI aggregation service from Information Services. Originally created by faculty for faculty as a place to explore generative AI, SpiderAI evolved for use by students and staff (note that SpiderAI has not been cleared for use with UR administrative data). SpiderAI is more private than personal accounts with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Copilot since the system is configured not to save or train on the prompts that are entered. And SpiderAI makes the pro models available at no cost, making it an equitable solution for students, staff, and faculty.

What’s new now? The latest Pro AI model from ChatGPT, 5.4 is freely available, as are a suite of Claude models, including Sonnet and Opus 4.6, Google Gemini models, including Gemini 3 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro. Copilot using your University of Richmond Microsoft account is available too. In addition to the models, help is now available for using SpiderAI’s features, either through articles on SpiderTechNet or a user guide you can download and print.

Why use SpiderAI instead of your personal account? It’s more private. When you use SpiderAI, your prompts aren’t used to train AI models and no profile of you is being created. Information Services does not review or save interactions unless an error occurs. SpiderAI also provides access to the Pro AI models for free. No need to pay $20/month for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Copilot. At the start of each semester, you’ll receive enough credits to get you through the semester. And SpiderAI is updated weekly. New models, new features, and performance improvements are added on an ongoing basis. For these reasons, SpiderAI is a better option than a personal account at each of these systems.

Associate Professor of Biology Melinda Yang says, “SpiderAI makes it easier to help my students learn how to use GenAI effectively in their learning. I can direct them all to SpiderAI, without worrying about which platform they are using and whether they have an account or enough tokens for usage. I can assure my students that their input will not be used for other purposes beyond their personal learning (e.g. training AI). I have really liked the option to develop a custom chat bot containing the materials and instructions from class, so students could use GenAI tools in a more directed fashion that helps them brainstorm ideas and obtain feedback to improve their writing. These assurances have been helpful for my personal use, both in lowering the barrier to exploring what GenAI has to offer and reducing my concern on what happens to the data I share with GenAI.”

Visit SpiderAI today. If you’re not on the campus network, you’ll need to log into the VPN first. Once you’ve logged into SpiderAI you can enter your prompt or click on the Full Chat App button to choose which model you want to work with and what options you want to enable. Or go to the Apps section to add Claude or Gemini or to access Copilot. And come back to SpiderAI soon, because more is happening all the time.
