DEIB Committee Charter
Purpose
The IS Division Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee was formed to build a plan for including DEIB components into the performance goals for the upcoming review year for the IS Division.
Commitment/Missions Statement
Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (referred to jointly as DEIB) are four words that have greater importance than the sum of their parts. It captures the culture of any organization in managing a diverse workforce that feels included and has equal opportunities to succeed.
We commit to recognizing our diversity is among our greatest strengths by building a strong foundation through:
- Recruiting, hiring, retaining, and promoting a talented and diverse workforce
- Improving productivity and business goals through thoughtful, intellectually rigorous, and respectful engagement with a wide range of viewpoints and perspectives
- Fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace in which all staff members feel they belong and feel included, respected, safe and valued
- Implementing, monitoring and reviewing our DEIB plan on a yearly basis and providing the necessary resources and training to ensure we meet our goals and the needs of our University community
By identifying and removing barriers and fostering individual potential, Information Services will cultivate a community where all members can learn and grow. Our community is committed to a safe environment that encourages intellectual, academic, and social interaction and engagement across multiple intersections of identities.
To build and leverage a diverse and inclusive workforce and workplace by building leadership capability and organizational capacity. This requires all employees and to do their part. Leaders must possess diversity and inclusion competencies to lead and manage an engaged workforce. Others must treat their colleagues with respect by listening to different viewpoints, opinions, thoughts and ideas and embracing a culture of inclusion.
Our commitment to these values is unwavering across all of our work.
Authority
The authority to make recommendations and craft yearly DEIB plan components for the IS Division is granted by the Vice President (VP) for Information Services and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the University of Richmond.
